The captain decides the course, cargo, finances, and other larger issues related to the ship, and the first mate handles the day to day and personal issues of crewmembers. If a crewmember brings something up that is important to the captain, the first mate will go to the captain. Essentially, the captain is the boss and the first mate is the manager.

I’m hopeful that Sasshan and Reilah don’t butt heads during this voyage, especially since Sasshan is trying to stay on the crew’s good graces.
