    • Terry Zwigoff’s brilliant documentary “Crumb” is, on the surface, a documentary about Robert Crumb, but in actuality is a deep dive on Robert and his two brothers, Charles and Maxon, with a strong focus on their art as well. Charles’s art in particular gripped me, it had the same artistic inspirations as Robert’s art, but went in a far darker, twisted direction of malaise and anxiety. His twisted figures both reminded me of my art and influenced it, far more than Robert’s.

During the production of the documentary, Charles took his own life. Sadly, none of his art exists today besides the documentary, because after his death, his mother threw his art away, thinking nobody would want it. Some people just don’t know how precious some things are.
